Readers & Writers 3
Join in a great new series showcasing local readers and writers with a focus on social issues—our third featured presenter is Dean Ashenden, author of Telling Tennant’s Story – the strange career of the great Australian silence (Back Inc. 2022)
As a boy Dean lived in the Northern Territory town of Tennant Creek and after a career in Education, when he returned he sought to understand how the story of relations between two racial groups has been told from its beginnings in the first encounters of black and white, through the work of the early anthropologists, the historians and the courts in landmark cases about land rights and the Stolen Generations, to the continuing controversy in Tennant Creek and across the nation. Telling Tennant’s Story won the 2022 Australian Political Book of the Year. Copies of Dean’s book will be for sale on the day. His talk will be followed by afternoon tea.
