Poets Corner with Peter Goldsworthy
In its 21st year, Poets Corner returns with a wonderful series of guest poets, and you can bring along your poems to share during our Open Mike sessions.
Our second guest for the year is renowned South Australian author, Peter Goldsworthy.
Born in Minlaton, South Australia, Peter is a writer and a medical practitioner. He completed his schooling in Darwin, then graduated from the University of Adelaide in 1974.
For several years, Peter worked in alcohol and drug rehabilitation but, with his poetry being published widely, he began dividing his time between working as a medical practitioner and a writer. He has won many awards for his stories, poetry, novels and opera libretti. He is known for his novels Honk If You Are Jesus, Three Dog Night and Maestro. Peter is a treasured and highly respected South Australian writer, whose poetry and short stories have been translated into many European and Asian languages.
The Oxford Companion to Twentieth Century Poetry summarises Peter’s writing thus: in every line the poet strives to make language elegant enough to do justice to the world as comedy.
